Editorial and corrections policy
Importers, students and small traders read these pages to estimate what a shipment will cost at the port. A wrong rate leads to a wrong price, so every rule points back to the text it was read in, with the day it was read.

What we read
- the tariff chapters and notifications published by CBIC;
- departmental letters and notifications on the Union Budget site and the CBIC portal, and the Finance Acts in the Gazette of India;
- the Customs Act and valuation rules on CBIC's Tax Information Portal;
- press releases of the Press Information Bureau, quoted as releases;
- public notices and guides of customs houses.
Sources we refuse
Blogs, broker marketing and search result summaries never supply a figure here, even when they are right; they can only point us to the text to read. When the official text cannot be opened, the page says "not verified" and gives no figure, or labels it clearly. A site that refuses automated readers is left unread.
Dates and updates
The site is updated by hand, not by an automatic feed. Each figure belongs to the version of the text we read. Where our compilation may lag behind later notifications, the page and the calculator say so, and every rate can be changed by the visitor.
Corrections
- We open the official text again.
- We correct the data file and its reading date, and add a test when the arithmetic is involved.
- The site rebuilds and every page shows the new date.
