Rate shown: the tariff rate before exemptions, from the CBIC compilation with Finance Act changes laid over it. Open a line for IGST and exemption entries. General information, not a classification ruling.
The First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 is divided into sections and then chapters, numbered up to 98. The table on this page lists what we read in each: its title, how many eight-digit lines it holds in our file, and the tariff rate that appears most often. It is a guide for finding where goods might sit, and for a feeling of the range: agricultural chapters carry high rates, machinery in chapter 84 is mostly at 7.5 per cent, and textiles and garments often mix a percentage with a rupee alternative. Our file has 12,522 lines across 97 chapters. Chapter 77 is kept empty in the Harmonized System for possible future use. Chapter 4, on dairy, eggs and honey, comes from the 31 March 2024 edition, because the later file at its address on the CBIC site holds an appendix instead.

How to move from here
Type a two-digit chapter number in the box above to see its lines. For products people ask about most, we have shorter pages: clothing, shoes, machinery, steel and plastics.
The source is the CBIC tariff page. Chapter titles were read by program and shortened to fit the table. For chapters 4, 10, 50, 72, 84 and 86, the automatic reading failed, and the titles were entered by hand.
